I know that it usually comes at no cost to replace your windshield if you availed like a really good insurance if youre gonna do it at an auto glass & windshield replacement shops. but I heard from some friends and family who did that, that they eventually regret doing so because the safety systems got compromised. when I went to the dealership I found out thet the reason for my issue is that my windshield was an aftermarket one. its not oem, so the only solution to fix it is to get an oem.

my question now is if my insurance in any way will be likely to cover the cost even just some of it? I'm gonna ask soon but I thought it would be clever to check with you guys first so I know how to negotiate if ever.

depends on what insurance you use, I'm using safelite, and they cover the replacement and calibration. although, after that they asked me $200 to reprogram collision camera

I believe if you have comprehensive insurance, this is covered depending on the situation. you may need to pay a deductible though then the company will pay the rest of the costs.

With comprehensive insurance i think they only cover the aftermarket windshield. If you want oem replacement, you'll have to pay the difference.

whenever youre replacing a windshield you should always go for oem one. Some insurance companies may be against this but you'll need to be determined and mention they're compromising your safety with an aftermarket one

hey.. any update? my mom's dealing with a similar windshield situation right now. did you end up getting any coverage from your insurance? did they cover the whole thing?

Worked for an insurance company before in Australia and usually this can be covered on comprehensive insurance. If it's a third-party insurance that you have then no, it's isn't covered. bot sure from which country you're from but yeah, that's how it works down under

Absolutely! Many insurance policies actualy cover OEM glass if it affects the functioning of safety systems. The best approach is to get a statement from the dealer confirming that it's causing problems, then contact your insurance and emphasize the safety aspect. Some insurers will cover the entire amount, while others may only reimburse a portion. It's definitley worth a try

Like what they said, it still depends on what kind of insurance you got. Some might not cover the windshield. So it's best to do a double check with your dealer or the third-party insurance company you transacted with?
