Considering a Japan VIN 2019 EX-L per my mechanic's advice

My trusted mechanic said he's seen fewer rust issues on Japan-built Honda CR-Vs and suggested I look at one. I found a low mileage 2019 EX-L for $21k, VIN starts with J, which caught me off guard. Does production country change the engine type or materials?

The first letter of the VIN is the country of origin and since you're seeing J, it means it came from a Japanese factory. As for the materials, no, it doesn't matter where it's built, the materials remain the same. Some differences come from assembly process or things like rust prevention, which is why your mechanic recommended to get one from Japan. He might be right, mainly because the Japanese do a lot in terms of rust prevention, a lot more than what other countries are doing.

Lines up with what he said. I was surprised how quick he pointed to VIN origin before anything else. I'll probably take it in for underbody inspection next week and double check the coating type. Do you know if Japan built ones get different rustproofing from the factory or is it more about regional practices before shipping? Trying to make sure it'll hold up over time before I commit.
