Be wary about diesel fuel

Someone from work had their Honda CR-V suddenly shut down about a quarter mile into a short trip to our office. The dash went black and they couldn't shift out of park unless they manually released it, but then the car wouldn't move. Their local mechanic saw multiple computer-related codes and suggested going to the dealer, but the dealer replaced the battery and a fuse, then blamed diesel fuel in the tank. Their own mechanic tested the fuel and confirmed it wasn't diesel, and now they're stuck with a big repair quote without any real computer diagnostics done. Is diesel really the problem? I'm scared about my 2022 CR-V.

Ok that is a little weird especially if the fuel tested clean? And yeah that's a common expectation from dealers... They just love pointing fingers LOL. It could be a bad ground or fried ECU, but for me it's definitely not the fuel. Maybe go for a real scan and second opinion before spending more?

that sounds like a classic sign of a major electrical or ECU/PCM failure, not a fuel issue. If it were diesel, the engine would have tried to run, albeit very poorly, before giving up.

I agree with this. It's not the first time a dealer will try to play the customer to avoid fixing a problem under warranty. @caradelevigne has your colleague managed to sort things out? Something like this shouldn't happen to anyone.

I've heard a bad ground or fuse can knock out the dash and shift controls. Also curious, was the check engine light on before it shut down, or did it just go dark all at once?
